119: The Biggest Mistake I Made As A Coach
Apple Podcasts | Google Podcasts | Spotify | Stitcher
In this episode, I am sharing my experience and reflections on why I used to try to take away people's struggles when I was first starting out as a coach. There’s a lot to learn from this episode, but I will specifically emphasize the importance of grappling with concepts in order to understand them, and how it's necessary for growth. I’ll also express my take on how to help people and yourself as well, when you’re in the client-coach relationship!
Growth comes from struggle
Growth comes from struggle. We all want to help ourselves and others, and when we see people struggling, our natural instinct is to try to take away their struggles. However, struggle is a necessary part of growth, and we must learn to embrace it.
As a business coach, I used to sell the idea that people could get rid of their struggles if they worked with me. I wanted to be the one to take away their struggles, and while this worked sometimes, it didn't always work. I was reminded that it's important to give ourselves grace when we make mistakes, and to look at ourselves too.
Many of us are caretakers, and we want to make the world a better place. We want to help people, and we want to be in positions where we can make an impact. Help is a powerful thing, and it's natural for us to want to help people.
In my former job working in public schools, we talked a lot about grappling. We saw students grappling with concepts, and it was hard for us as teachers to not intercede and help. We had to learn to let them grapple with the material and figure it out on their own. As a mother, I see this with my daughter as she works through her library assignments. It's hard for me to not help her, but I know that it's important for her to figure it out on her own.
Struggle is necessary for growth
The struggle we experience in life is a part of the learning process. When we struggle, we learn how to overcome obstacles and become stronger. It is important to recognize that struggle is necessary for growth. We must learn to accept it and use it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
When we try to take away someone else's struggles, we rob them of the opportunity to learn and grow. We must learn to let people grapple with their own issues and come to their own conclusions. We must also remember to give ourselves grace when we make mistakes. We all make mistakes, and it is important to recognize that these mistakes are a part of the learning process.
When we are faced with struggles, we must remember that growth comes from struggle. It is important to recognize that struggle is a part of life and that it is necessary for growth. We must learn to embrace it and use it to our advantage.
Growth is not always easy, and it often requires us to face our fears and tackle our struggles head-on. We must learn to be patient with ourselves and to recognize that the struggle is a part of the journey. We must also remember to be kind to ourselves and to recognize that growth is a process.
Struggle leads to learning
In today’s world, we often want to avoid struggle at all costs. We want to find the easy way out, but this often leads to a lack of growth and development. Struggle is an essential part of learning and growth. Without struggle, we cannot truly experience success. It is through struggle that we learn and understand the world around us. We are able to gain insight and knowledge that we would not have been able to gain otherwise.
Struggle can be difficult to embrace, but it is necessary for growth. We must learn to accept the struggles that come our way and use them to our advantage. We must also learn to let people grapple with their own issues and to give ourselves grace when we make mistakes. It is important to recognize that struggle is a part of life and it is necessary for growth.
This is something that I learned recently when I was talking to a client. She told me that it was nice to struggle and that she had learned a lot from it. This got me thinking about how I was messaging my services. I realized that I was inadvertently selling the idea that I could take away people’s struggles and make it easier for them. However, this is not reality and it is not what I want to do.
I want to help people move forward in their lives, but I don’t want to take away their struggle. I want to challenge people to lean into their struggles and to embrace them. I want to help people recognize that struggle is where the learning is. I want to help people understand that it is okay to struggle and that it is necessary for growth.
Struggle is not something to be feared, but rather something to be embraced. We must learn to accept our struggles and use them to our advantage. We must learn to recognize that struggle is a part of life and that it is necessary for growth. Struggle leads to learning and growth and we must learn to embrace it.
Grow your group program.
Growing a group program is no different. It requires hard work, dedication, and a lot of trial and error. It takes a lot of effort to build a successful group program and it is not something that can be done overnight. It requires a lot of planning, research, and dedication.
Steps in Growing a Group Program:
1: Create a plan that includes your goals, objectives, and a timeline. It should also include a budget, marketing strategies, and a list of resources. Once the plan is in place, the next step is to find the right people. This means finding people who are passionate about the topic and are willing to commit to the program. Once the right people are found, it is important to create a welcoming and supportive environment. This includes providing resources and support, as well as creating an atmosphere that encourages collaboration and growth.
2: Create a marketing plan. This includes creating an online presence, engaging in social media, and creating content that will attract potential members. It is important to remember that marketing is an ongoing process and should be done on a regular basis.
3: Provide resources and support to the members of the group. This includes providing resources to help them succeed, as well as providing feedback and guidance. It is also important to create a system of accountability so that members are held accountable for their actions and progress.
Growing a group coaching program is not an easy task, but it is possible. It requires hard work, dedication, and a lot of trial and error. With a plan and the right people, it is possible to create a successful group program that will benefit both the members and the organization.
