Why Teaching and Training Matter for Online Entrepreneurs
Raise your hand virtually (of course) if you've ever considered yourself an educator. Whether you were a teacher in a previous life or just have a knack for imparting knowledge, you're not alone. Even if you haven't formally taught, as an online entrepreneur, you likely find yourself in an educator's role. And guess what? Teachers make some of the best entrepreneurs! Why? Because, like online entrepreneurs, they manage their "classrooms," have to engage one of the toughest audiences, and are always in the spotlight. It's not easy, but it's rewarding.
The Distinct Difference Between Teaching and Training
Let's clear the fog around these two terms. Teaching is about imparting knowledge and providing information, often in an abstract manner. On the other hand, training is all about developing abilities, hands-on experiences, and practical skills. See the difference now? They're not just two sides of the same coin; they're different currencies! And, in the online space, we need both.
When to Teach and When to Train
Now, the million-dollar question: when should you teach, and when should you train in your group programs? It might seem blurry at first, but fear not, we've got you covered.
a. Get Clear on Your Framework as it Relates to Your Client's Journey: Understanding your framework as it aligns with your client's journey is crucial. It's not just about knowing your steps but also understanding where your clients are in their journey and how your framework fits into their goals. Let's say both clients need visibility, but one has the strategies, and the other needs a mindset shift. They're on different paths, so tailor your approach accordingly.
b. Blend Knowledge and Experience: Figure out when your clients need to think, to process information and when they need to build their skillset. Each step in your framework may require a mix of both. Being attuned to these needs will help you create a balanced and effective program.
Lean into Your Strengths
Recognize your teaching or training style. Some lean towards teaching, while others favor training. Understanding your inclination helps you fine-tune your program and meet your client's unique needs. Remember, it's not about doing what's trendy, but what resonates with you and your clients.
